The Road Ranger (crash box) is a non-synchromesh gearbox still widely used across the trucking industry. While automatics are growing in popularity, many employers still prefer drivers who can confidently operate a Road Ranger.
Gaining your licence in a Road Ranger (unrestricted) means you’re qualified to drive all gearbox types — Automatic (A), Synchromesh (B), and Non-Synchromesh. This significantly boosts your employability and future career options.
Once you pass your QLD driving test in a Road Ranger, you’ll never need to be retested for it again — even when progressing to Heavy Combination or Multi Combination licences.

All lessons and the test are completed in our HR truck. We specialise in crash box training, meaning you’ll earn a full unrestricted HR licence—no auto-only limitations.
